A current theme of Des' work is the self at the centre of our life experience, and this series of works explores the role of the self within perception and relational dynamics.Des's artworks are intended to immerse the viewer in an intensity of feeling that draws a line between one's own inner landscape, and the natural landscapes that soothe and nourish us all.

Des currently works with straw and other grasses using marquetry techniques to create her artworks. She uses local grasses and plant material to develop her paper.A focus of her practice is to offer a way to meditate on the depth of emotion captured by colours and texture. Her earlier experiences as a surface and pattern designer in fashion act as a foundation for her work.

Des has a background as an embroidery designer and technical embroidery specialist for companies including Giles, McQueen, Roksanda, Peter Pilotto and Burberry and is currently still called upon to help get shows on the catwalk for London Fashion Week.
